It'll be a pathetic excuse for a cloud if it'll only stream in the US (which if they continue with this 1 datacenter model will be the case). Amazon will beat them here, hands down. Have you seen how many datacenters they have?

    http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/11/18/where-amazons-data-centers-are-located/

^ That vs 1 datacenter...lets think...who's going to get the better performance...

Also, the point of the cloud is redundancy. What happens WHEN the 1 datacenter goes down (e.g power problems, network problems, natural disasters, etc)? Apple's will be wiped out in one move, Amazon just fail over to another DC location.

    No cloud for me.

Paying 20 bucks a year is not much, but I'm also paying 60 bucks a month for standard Internet access, and 30 bucks a month for my Phone's data+voice plan. To make matters worse Dutch telco's, one by one, are starting to impose data limits on their plans which means that if you go over the limit, they make you pay through the nose.

    No, thanks.

So, we are going to see even more of this message board trolling and FUD. There are many obvious 'newbie' troll posts. But, I am also seeing some 'moles' trolling too. Some of them showed up many months ago and are now regulars. What they are doing is providing newbie support.

The newbie comes on with a troll post, and bam, he gets a regular, or two to give legitimacy to the disinformation. The thread is off and running. Another tactic I notice is the thread subject troll. The subject line is written to be very negative, but then the first post is very much toned down, sometimes even apologetic, "Sorry for venting, I know this is rare...", that type of stuff. The damage is done and no one is aware it was a disinformation attack.

The stakes are high and MS has been found guilty in court of doing the things I am describing. This is not the ranting of a paranoid. I happen to know a considerable amount about disinformation and the tactics involved. With a little work, you can see the same things. Look at the post history for those making anti-Apple posts. The critical eye can discern the inconsistencies in what they write.

I can understand the feelings behind what you are saying, and do appreciate that point of view. I however however, am not sure that I can really see anyone doing hopeless FUD spreading on this particular thread. You seem to be (like a few others) concerned that those of us who have security concerns, have given up on Apple, and want to work with these 3rd party groups to provide us with security solutions. I don't see many people on this thread with that attitude, I see concerned users like myself, that want to see that Apple heads up security themselves.

To me the poll and question "After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?" was interpreted by me as ..

Yes I am concerned about Mac OS X security. Meaning, I am concerned about my operating system security in general.

For whatever reason, I believe that anyone that voted Yes, is being interpreted by some people as it meaning "Yes I am concerned about Mac OS X security, as it is a hopelessly unsecured operating system, god save us, the world is going to end!".

Perhaps a few of the people who said yes may think that, but don't assume all of us are like that! Please feel free to look into my post history, not that it is any of your business anyway. You will find that I am a true Apple and Mac fan through and through!

Oh please, get off your PC high horse for a second and come back to reality. Yeah, no one should get beat up and bullied. I'd also love for the world to be filled with rainbows and unicorns all the time too. However, if I walk around drunk in a bad part of town flashing a suitcase full of cash, well I shouldn't be shocked that I get robbed. I know people don't like to take personal responsibility for their actions these days and everyone's ready to sue someone else because nothing is ever their fault. But most reasonable people should realize that being drunk in the ghetto as a transgendered guy isn't the brightest idea.

And rape victims deserved it because they wore miniskirts too.

Being drunk in a 'bad part of town' and flashing whatever is one thing. But that's no excuse, reason, or justification for you being attacked as a result.

Being a transgender, drunk, and in a rich country club isn't going to be very bright either.

Just being transgender is more than enough.

Especially with bigger issues in this world and people would rather prod each other out of a perceived sense of sensibility or lack thereof. Indeed, in the ideal environment, everybody would flash cash and could do so in absolute safety. I think they're currently called "gated communities". I wonder why.

I'm not sure why we even need an iPhone 5.

The iPhone 4 is a great form factor. It does the job. At most what it needs is a spec jump (64GB, and maybe clock the CPU faster) and that should hold people over for another year.

    I mean, before we had:

    iPhone
    iPhone 3G
iPhone 3Gs (pretty much the same form factor but faster CPU)
    iPhone 4

I suspect we may get an iPhone 4 plus or something like that.

Also, do you people really need a new phone every year? I had my Treo 650 for nearly four years. The only reason I only kept my Palm Pre for less than a year was that it started having hardware problems.

This makes me sad. The palm pre part. It was a great phone, but unfortunately its hardware was terrible. It may have been to palm what the iPod was to Apple if only they hadn't slacked in that area. Quite a shame...

Also, just wanted to weigh in on the "big hands" thing - I'm a woman, born a woman, never any question about it, but my hands are as big as most men's, especially considering I'm only 5'4". So are you going to beat me up just in case I'm a man?

That's a point I was also meaning to make, If you start scrutinising every woman to try to tell their history you're going to make a lot of false-positives. I have a couple of very tall and broad female friends that have suffered from this despite not being trans.

People really need to stop making other people's gender their own business, stop making assumptions and give people the basic courtesy of respecting their gender.

So now this is an email you received? An AT&T rep actually put it in writing? Is this what you're now saying?

Where this got "off track" or rather on the track it should've been on in the first place is that clearly if your upgrade was pushed back it was from any number of things people have posted about for years now on the matter: bill payment, length of being a customer, level of account, etc... Really, this comes up every year.

Your story is making less and less sense, and here's where actually thinking first comes in handy:

If a customer service rep told you that the iPhone had been delayed then either this was public knowledge, thus why forward the email to MacRumors, or this wasn't public knowledge, thus why would a first contact customer rep even know this let alone say anything about it?

Sorry if it seems like I, and others, are jumping on you, but your story is BS, and you either know it, or should know it. Take a look at the coverage it's gotten. It's on most of the Apple coverage sites including some read by investors and analysts.

Do we really need news being polluted with this? If you're an honest person, you should now, confronted with logic, common sense, and the actual truth, contact those who picked up your story.

Clearly your upgrade wasn't delayed because of the iPhone being released later, and you know it.

Now we're getting somewhere. I hadn't realized nor did I ever intend this situation to be construed as "They moved my upgrade date due to the iPhone delay."

I'll paste below, while removing the names involved, the original email correspondence between myself and the AT&T representative. This is an original email reply to a support form submission on the AT&T site.

    Original Message Follows:
    ------------------------
    Contact and Verification Information
    Topic/Subtopic
Topic: I have a question about my contract
    Subtopic: Contract expiration

Q2:Enter your contract expiration question below:
A2:I'm curious as to why my upgrade date used to be 6/18 of this year, when now it's moved to 11/19? I've ugpraded three years in a row now when the new iPhone has been released. This year, assuming they launch around the same timeframe (June/July) I won't be able to? Some clarification would be great.

    Thanks!

    And the response:

    Dear Mr. *****,

Thank you for taking the time to e-mail AT&T to advise that your upgrade date was 6/18/11, but now when you check, you see that it has been moved to 11/19/11 and want to know why this has occurred. I apologize for the frustration this has caused. My name is *****, and I am happy to help you with your inquiry.

Unfortunately, we are not given a reason when the upgrade date changes on a line. Equipment discounts are made available from time to time based on a number of factors: service tenure, spending levels, payment history, usage practices and time frame since last equipment discount. Generally, a line is eligible to upgrade every 17 to 21 months, but frequently offers are made to the primary line on an account to do this earlier based on the factors above. The upgrade offer is also based on a three-month average of the billed rate plan and data services per line and eligibility is generally re-evaluated every three months or so as well and sometimes the dates do change. I apologize that this affected you and for any frustration and inconvenience it has caused.

Apple has informed us that they do not plan to release the iPhone in the June to July timeframe, though there will be a newer version in the future. Unfortunately, we have not been given a release time for the new phone. We will release this information on our website when it is available to us.

Mr. *****, I am sorry that I could not give you a more definite answer, but hope that the information provided has been helpful. Should you have additional concerns or questions about this issue please reply to this email. If you need to contact us again regarding a new issue please send us another email via the contact link through your online account. Again, my name is *****, and I thank you for being a valued AT&T customer for several years. We appreciate your business and will do our best to ensure that your wireless experience is a success.

I encourage you to visit our web site (www.att.com/wireless) often to view current and previous monthly statements, make payments and to shop for new product and service offerings.

    Sincerely,

    *****
    AT&T
    Online Customer Care Professional

Again, all I've left out is my mobile number and our names. The article here on MacRumors is both precise in labeling this as a rumor, and warns against believing the statements of support personell. Also, I don't believe in any way that it suggests an iPhone delay was the cause of my upgrade date change.

It would be nice, if the user could change the windows (UI) color in MacOS X like this can already be done in Windows / Linux.

So, that you could change the grey look to something else. They could integrate the color chooser, like you have, when you work with fonts etc.

After all, Mac is sold to consumers, so why not give them the choise of colors, at least in their programs, if their computers are cold/neutrla grey/silver/white colored?

this is just microsofts way to stick it to the mac user who wants to use dual booting. not those who will use boot camp?

anyway you look at it, this is lame. Can't we just pay them and they accept our money? Now they will tell us it isn't enough, we have to pay more.

screw ms, people can't get a break FROM THESE LOSERS~!!

*sigh* Every time someone makes this mistake...

Bear in mind that the US prices do not include sales tax of any kind. In your case Australian prices include GST which I believe currently runs at 10%? If you're anything like the UK there may be additional import taxes to pay and the cost of doing business is likely to be higher (everything from shipping costs to salaries affect the price you pay at the checkout). Add in a margain that Apple will calculate to protect themselves from changes in the exchange rate and you'll probably be very close to price parity. Just as in the UK you're paying extra for the product because of the country, not because of Apple.

That's not to say Apple DON'T screw up on exchange rates and gouge the heck out of us non-Americans of course. The Mac Mini being the most recent, and painful, example. But you need to make sure you compare like for like before complaining.

UK VAT is a total Bi#ch

Why? I loved my iPhone 4 (before I lost it) but my 3GS is far easier to hold.

I still prefer the iPhone4 design aesthetically, but the reason is the awesomeness of the exterior metallic antenna look, rather than the rectangular block shape. Although, a teardrop design would mean the loss of the external antenna, which would be disappointing from an aesthetic point of view, but something I could live with.

By "teardrop," I am referring to the tapered look from top to bottom when viewed from a side-profile. I like the rounded edges of the original iPhone and slight hump on the back of the 3G because those are symmetrical (they are also nicer to hold than the iPhone 4).

    No "AT&T" !

    There's always hope!

Why would you want to limit the carriers? How would that make the experience of the phone better for you?

I mean even if you don't like AT&T and prefer Verizon, how does this affect you now that there is a Verizon phone that there is an AT&T one?

So you basically want those of us who actually like being on AT&T to be left without the choice for something that would not even benefit you? How frikkin selfish!
